Six Pillars Of Wellness

Wellness is the conscious effort to make choices that allow one to achieve their full potential and to live a healthy, fulfilling life. It's meant to be holistic and encompass the major aspects of your lifestyle. Wellness is not merely the absence of depression. Just like health is not the absence of disease. Rather, wellness is conscious effort to bring about joy and purpose and meaning in your life. Merely removing the weeds in a garden does not bring about beauty. Rather, one must actively plant seeds to grow beautiful flowers and then tend to those flowers on a regular basis with water, sunshine, and lots of love. There are 6️⃣ dimensions of wellness.

The Six Pillars Of Wellness are:

  1. Emotional - Am I aware of my feelings? Do I accept them or deny them? 
  2. Spiritual - Do I recognize my search for meaning and purpose? Am I living consistent to my values and beliefs? 
  3. Social - Am I enhancing my personal relationships and are they enhancing me? 
  4. Physical - Am I taking care of my body? Do I protect it from toxins? Am I moving, eating, sleeping? 
  5. Intellectual - Do I stretch and challenge my mind? What am I feeding my mind?
  6. Occupational - Does my work enrich me? Do I find it impactful and rewarding? How can I make what I do more meaningful? 

You may find that there are more, and that's okay too. The idea is to use these questions as prompts to see how your health is in each dimension. Don't get overwhelmed and think you need to achieve perfection in all areas. Identify ONE area that will have the most positive impact in your life, and start working from there. Make it a regular routine to check in with yourself to see how you're doing in each area. You'll find that your needs will vary and somedays one dimension will require more attention than the other. The act of checking in with yourself will help you strengthen your self-awareness muscles. Remember, this is a reiterative process. Wellness is a journey, not a destination. ⁠You have to keep watering your wellness plant every single day. The most beloved deeds to Allah swt are those that are small, but consistent. 


The point of this exercise is for you to wake up and take control of your life. Become aware of where you are and then take purposeful action and seek appropriate resources to get to where you want to be. Close the gap between who you are and who you want to become 💯⁠

Use the above six pillars to journal and self-reflect. See what your wellness bucket needs and then consciously prioritize that need during this week. This should be protected time in your schedule to fill your wellness bucket.
